Eco-design standards for British industrial fans look set to be updated to align them more closely with those operating in the EU.
The standards apply to electrically driven fans used in industrial and commercial settings with an input power of between 125W and 500KW.
Revisions to the standards are outlined in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s consultation paper, Improving standards for industrial fans, which was published on 16 October. It sets out equivalent benchmarks to those in amended EU regulations that came into force in July.
The new standards include proposals to update GB Minimum Energy Performance Standards that will mean the worst-performing fan models are phased out of the GB market.
Manufacturers will also be required to make spare parts available after they stop selling models, and ensure software and firmware updates remain free for at least 10 years.
