Specifying UPS systems: what building services engineers need to know

17 June, 13:00 BST

Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems play a critical role in maintaining resilience and continuity in buildings where loss of power cannot be tolerated, including healthcare facilities, data centres, commercial buildings and critical infrastructure. Yet specifying a UPS system involves far more than selecting a power rating.

In this CIBSE Journal webinar, Alex Emms of Rehlko will provide a practical overview of the key considerations involved in UPS specification, including system topology, redundancy strategies, battery technologies, efficiency, environmental conditions and lifecycle performance. The session will also outline the role of relevant standards, including the BS EN IEC 62040 series covering UPS safety, performance and testing, and explain how specification decisions can influence reliability, maintainability, operational energy use and whole-life cost.

Drawing on practical examples and current industry approaches, the webinar will help engineers and consultants better understand how to develop robust UPS specifications, avoid common pitfalls and make more informed decisions for critical power applications.
