Hamilton House participated in the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard pilot scheme
Building owners can now submit performance data to verify that their facilities are aligned with the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UK NZCBS).
The verification process opened last week for the voluntary Standard, which obliges buildings to fulfil a number of requirements, including: removal of fossil fuels; the introduction of onsite renewable electricity generation; and limits on upfront embodied carbon and measured in-use energy consumption.
The evidence requirements include 12 months of in-use energy data and the as-built upfront embodied carbon data, which must be verified by an independent third-party. ‘This independent verifier will apply expert knowledge to affirm the quality of the evidence and whether it substantiates the conformity claim,’ said UK NZCBS.
Bureau Veritas is currently the sole accredited verifier and appointed verification administrator, and will ‘ensure net zero claims are accurate, reliable and backed by rigorous assessment’, said Antoine Giros, company vice-president, UK and Ireland. Other organisations will be able to apply to become verifiers from 2027.
