Awareness of TM44 remains ‘worryingly low’ in the leisure and retail sectors, according to a new alliance that is seeking to raise the profile of the mandatory energy efficiency assessment for air conditioning systems.

Consultancies Greengage Solutions and Mission Net Zero, and leisure industry ESG platform Sustainable Hotel Buyer, have joined forces to launch the TM44 Alliance.

It has been set up in response to concerns that awareness among businesses of their TM44 obligations remains low across the hospitality sector, leaving many at risk of unknowingly falling out of compliance.

Under TM44, air conditioning systems with an effective rated output of more than 12kW must be inspected at least every five years. Businesses that do not have a valid inspection may be exposed to enforcement action by Trading Standards, as well as financial penalties.

Organisations can check if their properties have a valid TM44 inspection by visiting the Alliance’s website at www.tm44.org
