New AI-powered software could cut emissions from power-hungry data centres by a quarter, according to researchers at Pennsylvania State University.
They have developed software that analyses real-time climate and economic data to optimise data centre cooling. This will be used to train an AI agent, which can then dynamically adjust data centres’ power usage to peak when the weather is favourable and electricity is affordable, optimised for the facility’s location.
