Thouria Istephan speaking at the CIBSE Building Safety Conference
Too many are living in unsafe buildings, the government’s interim chief construction adviser has said before leaving the role last month.
In her final report, Thouria Istephan said progress has been made on construction standards since the Grenfell Tower disaster, but there is further work to do.
‘We must remain vigilant. We must continue to monitor risks, as well as push for buildings to be made safe,’ she says in the report. ‘I encourage anyone who sees safety risks to raise them and to take action.’
We must ensure regulations ‘appropriately respond’ to emerging safety risks, she added.
