An ambitious AI-driven initiative to modernise the UK construction sector has been announced, in a collaboriation between Buro Happold, Foster + Partners, Versarien PLC, and ten startups through the Digital Catapult’s accelerator, part of the Innovate UK BridgeAI programme.
The initiative aims to tackle industry challenges such as design integration, compliance, and 3D construction printing.
Backed by organisations including The Alan Turing Institute and BSI, BridgeAI targets sectors with high growth potential and low tech adoption. Alain Waha from Buro Happold, described the programme as ‘a catalyst for change’, connecting industry leaders with AI talent to address systemic inefficiencies.
Startups including Planarific, Fairware, and Infinitive will explore AI tools for retrofit modelling, material insight, and modular system design.
With construction costs projected to rise 17% in five years, AI presents an opportunity to optimise workflows and enhance productivity. Digital Catapult will support commercialisation through access to infrastructure, consultancy, and industry networks.
