Fire safety SIG seeks support for formation

Group plans to take a cross-disciplinary approach

A proposal to establish a Special Interest Group (SIG) for fire safety has been approved by the CIBSE Technology Committee and now requires member support to proceed.

The Fire Engineering SIG’s aim is to: bring all of the engineering disciplines together; take ownership of CIBSE Guide E with a view to updating the guidance to reflect the current state of science and engineering; and produce a series of sector-specific practical guidance for building services engineering disciplines on how to implement fire safety measures.

The committee wants to engage with all members of CIBSE and CIBSE SIGs and societies, and consult with other professional bodies.

Fire safety engineering is a multidisciplinary process, and without a combined, strategic approach from all sectors of the construction industry, the safety of buildings and occupants is at risk.
