Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) President Ir Prof Frank Chan and a delegation from HKIE visited CIBSE London headquarters last month for a day focused on collaboration, knowledge sharing and the future of engineering.
The visit provided an opportunity for CIBSE and HKIE to strengthen their relationship and exchange views on the opportunities and challenges facing engineers internationally.
During the day, a president’s talk seminar was held, bringing together senior representatives from leading engineering organisations to share their perspectives, priorities and plans.
It was also an opportunity to explore how greater collaboration and shared knowledge and experience can help drive the profession.
Speakers included:
- Kate Carpenter, president, Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT)
- Sam Hubbard, president, Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
- Ruth Shilston, trustee, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)
- Mike Burton, CIBSE 2026–27 President Elect
- Ir Marsden Kong, assistant director, Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD)
- Ir Prof Frank Chan, president, HKIE
With the built environment and wider engineering sectors facing increasingly complex challenges, collaboration across disciplines and borders is essential to developing solutions and supporting the next generation of engineers. This exchange of expertise will strengthen the engineering profession and lead to a more sustainable, resilient and betterperforming built environment.
For CIBSE, the visit also highlighted the Institution’s strong international outlook and its commitment to building relationships with engineering organisations around the world.
