CIBSE welcomes CCC report

Recommendations for building sector align with CIBSE’s call for a reduction in demand; energy efficiency; and the electrification of the supply chain for low carbon heat

The first carbon budget for a net-zero carbon UK, as well as a routemap to deliver it – at lower overall GDP costs than previously estimated – has been welcomed by CIBSE.

The Climate Change Committee (CCC) recommendations for the building sector align with what CIBSE has been advocating; reducing demand; energy efficiency; and the electrification, and building, of the supply chain for low carbon heat.

Hydrogen cannot currently be relied on to play a significant role or reduce the need for all of these.

The next steps are clear: turning this routemap into a regulatory framework for safe, healthy and comfortable net-zero carbon buildings.
