CIBSE assembles AI working group to shape future of building services

Experts will guide Institution’s response to emerging technologies, policy and ethics

CIBSE has established a working group on artificial intelligence (AI) to help shape the Institution’s approach to this fast-evolving field.

The group will explore key areas, including terminology, relevant policy and legislation, ethics and guidelines, and sub-categorisation of AI.

Its members bring a wide range of perspectives from within and beyond the building services industry, and include engineers, architects, an AI lawyer, and representatives from AI start-ups.

After the first meeting CIBSE’s Software Product Manager Ben Arnold said ‘I’m genuinely excited by the breadth of knowledge and experience in the room. I’m confident this collective expertise will help CIBSE, and the wider industry, navigate the evolving landscape of AI with clarity and confidence.’

The first objective for the working group is to develop a CIBSE Position Statement.  The long-term intention is to create a dedicated Special Interest Group on AI open for CIBSE members and the wider building services community with an interest in the area. This group will provide the opportunity for as many people as possible to discuss and navigate the opportunities that AI will bring to the industry.
