The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has told the Secretary of State for Education that it is deeply worried about new guidance that appears to reduce the level of fire suppression in schools.

In a letter to Bridget Phillipson MP, the CIC has raised concerns that a new specification document for schools built under the 2025 Department for Education contract promotes a reversal of the school sprinkler policy.

The document states that the 2007 version of BB100, which requires new schools to include sprinklers unless it can be evidenced that the risk is low and sprinklers would be disproportionate, is ‘no longer required’.
